Lord’s Test: Sri Lanka Survive from Certain Defeat


Sri Lanka escaped from certain defeat n first Test Match against English Cricket Team at Lord Cricket Stadium. English Team Scored 575 after losing 9 wickets with Joe Root scored unbeaten 200, his innings include 16 boundaries. Wicket keeper batsman Mate Prior played brave innings of 86. Ian Bell was other batsman to cross 50 score. Sri Lankan Fast Bowler Pardeep took 4 wickets.

In response, Sri Lankan Tigers were all out for 453 runs, Sangakara scored 147, while Mathews also scored century. English Team declared their second innings for 267 on losing 8 wickets.

Now Sri Lankan Cricket Team required 390 runs to win the Match, while English Bowlers need to get all wickets of Sri Lankan Team in order to claim victory.

Sri Lankan Team started well on final day of the Match, Sri Lankan Team complete first 50 runs after consuming 13.4 overs. At drinks, Sri Lanka was at 54 for 1.

Silva and Sangakara adds 50 runs for second wicket and Sri Lankan Team was looking good at lunch of final day as they were 99 for 1 in 29 overs with Silva at 44 and Sangakara at 34.

42nd over resulted in loss of 2nd wicket for Sri Lankan Team as Silva was caught behind the wicket, the bowler was Jordan. He scored 57 runs.

Lankan Team completed its 150 runs in51.5 overs, while Sangakara also scored 50 in second innings. At Tea Sri Lank loss good looking Sangakara, he scored 59 runs. After departure of Sangakara, Sri Lankan Batsmen lose temperament and English Bowlers were very close to claim victory.

Jayawardene scored 18, Thirimanne 2, Mathews 18, Jayawardene (wicket keeper) 8, Kulasekara and Herath 1 each. Eranga and PArdeep was the last pair at crease for Sri Lanka. Pardeep faced last 5 deliveries, while bowler was Stuart Broad. He got the wicket of Herath on very first ball, Prior took Herath behind the wicket. Pardeep successfully blocked all 5 deliveries to tie the match for his team.

On second last ball, Broad make an LBW appeal, while English fielders started celebration of victory. Sri Lankan Batsman took Review and it was confirmed that ball first face bat before hitting on paid. Pardeep block last ball to make it a tie.
