New Zealand Start with Sensational Victory over Sri Lanka

New Zealand Beat Sri Lanka by 98 runs in Opening Match of ICC World Cup 2015. Sri Lanka won the toss and put Black Caps to bat first, however their bowlers failed to deliver as New Zealand put a strong total of 331 on scoreboard. After Flying start New Zealand batsmen maintained the run rate and finished up with 331 runs on board, CJ Anderson was top scorer who also finishes well, his innings of 75 runs on 46 balls include 8 boundaries and 2 maximums.

In response Sri Lanka got nice start, however they failed to secure their wickets in mid of their batting innings. Thirmanne and Dilshan provide a 67 runs start while Thirmanne played some good strokes, however Boult bowled him via beautiful Yorker. In next over, Vettori picked up the next batsman Jayawardne on Duck.



Sangakara was also looking confident during his innings, but Boult picked up him on 39 runs, Sangakara took review to save his wicket, but umpire confirmed the decision. Next batsmen couldn’t manage to keep going chasing target and keep throwing their wickets. Karunaratne (14) bowled by Milne on 163, Mendis next to go on the total of 168 followed by Kulasekara (10) on 196.

Mathews showed some resistance, however Southee picked him up on a short pitch ball via Vettori. Soon after his departure, Southee also picked up Malinga behind the wicket.

Earlier in first innings Black Caps put 111 for first wicket in 15.5 overs, when BB McCullum caught by Mendis on the bowling of Herath. Lakmal picked up Guptill just 1 run short of his half century, Williamson contribution to his team was 57, Taylor (14), Elliott (29) and Ronchi (29) contributed to 331, however CJ Anderson’s quick fire in death overs really helped New Zealand to put a challenging target for Sri Lankans.
