Change in New Islamabad Airport Road Master Plan


New Islamabad Airport is located in outskirts of Islamabad City and the Master Plan PC-1 to access the Airport requires travelling of 15 KM from Kashmir Highway Glora Morr, while 11 KM Road is already constructed and in useable form passing from Sector H-15, H-16 and H-17. The 6 Lane Highway requires construction of 4 KM Road from Motorway Zero Point M2 to Airport, this was the most economical plan which the authorities has canceled on unknown grounds.

The authorities has now decided to construct 21 KM new Road from Glora Morr Islamabad Kashmir Highway,  there are some draw backs for the new project including

The New Road passes from the back side of Sector H-14, H-15, H-16 and Sector H-17 which is a long route for visitors

-          The new Project requires acquiring land of Billion Rupees
-          The Proposed Railway Track of Islamabad to Texila will no more available due to construction of new Road
-          The visitors require traveling 2.5 KM to park their Vehicle even after entering into the Airport Premises
The Federal Minister for Planning stated that the Planning Commission is of the view that the Approach Road for Airport should have 300 feet of Right of Way to benefit the Government. Such type of Development resulted in escalation of real estate.

The Minister stated in response to a question regarding 2.5 KM travelling for Parking that this is due to Future Proposed Runway, on the other hands the Runways of modern airports like Dublin Berlin and Amsterdam, Dubai, Sydney and Manchester are located on above the Road Tunnels.

The survey stated that the tunnel on Runway requires only 600 Million Rupees, while the New Airport Road will cost Rupees. Indeed a huge loss of
