The members of PEMRA said in their talk with media officials
that PEMRA has suspend the license of GEO News, GEO Entertainment and GEO Tez
Channels. The 5 private members of PEMRA announced the decision during 97th
Scheduled meeting of PEMRA.
No Government members attend the meeting, while Mian
Shams-Ur-Rehman from Punjab, Shama Parveen from Balochistan, Fareeha from KPK,
Zeba Hussian from Sindh and Israr Abbasi from AJK and Gilgit attend the
meeting.
The private members said that if government members attend
the meeting, they can convey a strong message to violators.
The private members ordered to seal all of the offices of
GEO Channels including GEO News, GEO Tez and GEO Entertainment.
Mian Shams said that Mir Shakil-Ur-Rehman tried
hard to affect on decision of PEMRA, however the members do the right decision.
The media officials said that weather they have authority to implement on their
decision or not? the private members said that they the Government Members of
PEMRA are facing stress from Government officials, and thus avoiding to attend
the meeting, however they have called the meeting as on 28th of the
May again so that the decision can be finalized to suspend the Geo Channels.
